Who are we?

NeoTRIPs is national neonatal study group, which aims to improve neonatal clinical care through large scale quality improvement projects.

The team is led by Cheryl Battersby (Consultant Neonatologist) and the other committee members include Devangi Thakkar, Amit Verma, Aarti Verma, Sophia Teoh and Jessica Kimpton. Each project also receives input from a consultant with specialist interest in that area and a project specific trainee lead. Our central committee oversees multiple local hospital teams composed of a local consultant neonatologist, local trainee lead and other paediatric trainees. Together we comprise a dedicated and passionate team spanning multiple regions across the UK.

Establishing a network of trainees passionate about neonatal care

What we do

Every 12 months we ask an important clinical question regarding neonatal care. Our central team creates a study protocol and cascades it to all the satellite hospitals. Each local team collects standardised data and feeds it back centrally for analysis. The data is then written up for presentation and publication. Authorship includes all individuals in the NeoTRIPs study group.

Equipping trainees with the skills and confidence to improve to clinical practice locally

Projects

2019: Management of early onset sepsis in neonates on the postnatal ward

2020current: Pan-London early-onset sepsis observational study

This is a regional, prospective, observational study evaluating the number of ‘missed cases’ of neonatal early onset sepsis when following NICE CG149 guidelines vs the Kaiser Permanente Sepsis Risk Calculator (SRC). This study is conducted across 26 London neonatal units in collaboration with the London Operational Delivery Network and our pan-London NeoTRIPs trainee network.

Future: Management of neonatal hypoglycaemia on the postnatal ward
